The Best of Everyday Enchanting 2014
I can’t believe it’s already time to recap another year! 2014 has brought so many changes in both my real life and my blog life- it’s impossible to sum them up into one post! However, I want to do my best to take you through a recap of my first year of blogging more regularly, and share some of the best posts of the year! Thank you so much for joining me for 2014, and I look forward to everything 2015 will bring- starting with (hopefully VERY soon) the birth of our little girl!
Although we finished the pantry in the spring of 2013, the pantry still ruled in 2014- both the initial reveal and the recap of the organizing mistakes that I corrected a year later! It was the very first DIY project we completed in this house and continues to be a very popular post on Pinterest and elsewhere. It’s a great space- it’s easy to keep organized!
We finally finished our DIY Kitchen Remodel in February. It was by far our largest project to date, but it was without a doubt our most rewarding! It was also the most controversial- I had exciting features on both Elle Decor and House Beautiful that led to viral exposure of our space, and received hundreds of comments- some very lovely, and others not so much ;)
A lot of the controversy was a result of filling in the oak grain and painting solid wood cabinets white with a paint sprayer. I happened to find the old oak cabinets to be dated and dark- and we are very happy with our new kitchen! We also built a DIY farmhouse-style Kitchen Island and I gave it a knock-off Restoration Hardware gray-wash finish. I have continued to decorate and add farmhouse character to the room in the past year, and we are about to enter the next phase of the renovation with new dark rustic/handscraped hickory floors, trim at the bottom of the cabinets, recessed LED ceiling lights, and interior organization. I can’t wait to share the changes!
The Powder Room
Last spring we focused on updating our first floor half-bath, which I call the Powder Room. It is the bathroom that anyone visiting will use, and it’s right off of the kitchen, so I considered it a priority to make it a nice space.
We built a knock-off Pottery Barn vanity and gave it a gray-brown stain to compliment the granite vanity top that had already been in the space. It’s one of my favorite pieces of all time!
We were a bit burnt out by two such large projects, but over the summer we managed to build a Farmhouse dining table for my Mom.
Fireplace Remodel Part 1
We also completed the first part of our Fireplace Remodel. In 2015 we plan on adding built-ins to each side and planking behind the TV, but it is already a huge improvement! We have made quite a few exciting changes to the living room that I will be sharing in 2015 (it will be receiving the same new flooring as the kitchen).
Seeing it laid out like this it is crazy how far we’ve come on our Renovation List! But there’s never a dull moment around here- I have a brand new Mudroom to reveal to you soon and also the living room changes, as I mentioned above. Our new Master Bedroom is in it’s final stages, and we will be pulling baby girl’s nursery together in the coming weeks. Our big flooring project is about to begin, and somewhere in the mix I will be giving birth to the baby girl mentioned above ;). It’s a crazy life, but we wouldn’t have it any other way!
I can hardly wait to see what 2015 brings!
But wait, there’s more!
Some of my favorite bloggy friends are sharing their years in review today too, and believe me, these ladies have had amazing years! You won’t want to miss out on their best posts, so be sure to hop around and check them out!
