I wanted to stop by today and share the reason for my prolonged blogging absence. Baby Hendrick #3 is on the way, healthy by all accounts, and due to arrive January 27 (also Mack’s birthday, coincidentally)! The baby has a fast heartbeat and was zooming around like a crazy little ping pong ball at both the first ultrasound and the recent heartbeat check. It’s very reminiscent of Cooper as a “gummy bear”, so I probably shouldn’t hold my breath for a subdued child this time around…
The boys are very excited to have a little sibling, and they are divided on their wishes. Logan is hoping for a sister so he can have one of each. Cooper says he wants a little brother to “boss around” like Logan bosses him around. :)
If you’re curious…
Symptoms: Pretty much every single one in the book. I considered myself a bit of a seasoned pro at the whole pregnancy thing. HA, the joke is on me- I have never experienced anything like this. This pregnancy has been truly tough- even though I’m a few weeks into my second trimester, I’m still feeling sick. I have food aversions like crazy, and I can’t handle most smells. Food is a big thing- I can’t miss a meal (or I turn into an Hangry lunatic), but nothing is appetizing. I can also fall asleep sitting up- I need my early afternoon nap – and I used to be a person who took a long time to fall asleep. I’m hoping things settle down soon so I can get some progress made on my list of things I need to get done before the baby arrives! As a side note, I can also occasionally feel the baby move, which is a positive and fun thing. It seems super early, but I’ve heard it’s common in subsequent pregnancies.
Gender: As of right now, we aren’t finding out- it will be a delivery room surprise. Since this is our last baby, we thought we make it exciting, and although it’s hard, it is exciting to wait! I’ve already passed up an opportunity to find out the gender, which was really a test of willpower, especially since the tech was trying to get me to cave. The 20-week scan is right around the corner and that will be another time I have to tell myself (and possibly the sweet technician at my doctor’s office) no! We will not be sharing our potential names either since we want to wait to meet the little person first anyway.
Many people have asked (because we have two boys) if we were trying for a girl. Well, I’m not exactly sure how we would do that- we were trying for a baby! Of course, I’d love to have the experience of having a girl, but I would also love to have a boy. We will get one of the two. :) Either way, this is our last baby because my body can’t handle another pregnancy. It seems like my fertility and health gets a little worse with each pregnancy.
I’ve also been asked if I have an intuition for either gender- and I can honestly say no. My two previous pregnancies were very different from each other, in spite of being two boys. I barely felt pregnant with Logan at all and with Cooper I had morning sickness at the very beginning, but then felt really good- energetic and healthy (my fingers are crossed that feeling is in my near future!). I carried Logan low and Cooper up super high (I’m carrying low again so far this time). I gained a lot of weight with Logan and lost a lot of weight with Cooper (gaining so far this time…in spite of not being able to keep food down- it’s a bit of a mystery, really). I don’t buy into the whole “old wives tale” aspect of things anyway. I think that symptoms vary by pregnancy- not gender.
Baby’s Room: As this is a decor blog, I thought I’d share my thoughts on where we are going to house this baby. We are on the fence about this. We have a teeny tiny 4th “bedroom”. It is currently a storage room with a full bed in it- which leaves no floor space. Our eventual goal is to make it a homework/kid’s craft room with a bookcase, the play table, and a computer desk. There is a possibility we may make it temporarily into a small baby clothes storage room with a changing table. I hesitate to call it a nursery since there would be no room left for a crib. The baby will most likely sleep in a bassinet next to our bed for the first several months, so it really isn’t necessary to have a room just for the baby. Eventually, we will be moving into the area above the garage, and our current master bedroom will be walled in and divided into a hallway and the baby’s room (see more about the floorplan here). If we do anything before the baby arrives, it will be gender neutral, of course. I am not a big fan of yellow or green, so it would be gray or pale cream.
Never fear, though- this is not going to turn into a pregnancy blog. :) I will probably include occasional updates as a small part of our regularly scheduled posts. I’m actually doing my best to focus on other things since I’m very impatient to meet the little one, but January is still VERY far away!
