Primary Bedroom

Primary Bedroom

We transformed an awkward bonus room above the garage to a relaxing bedroom retreat, complete with a cozy reading nook.

When we first moved into our home, there was a giant bonus room above the garage that could only be accessed from the second floor by going through a door in a closet. After going through the door, there was a long, winding hallway before you entered the room. It had a separate entry and staircase from the garage below. Long story short, A LOT of space was wasted!

We reworked the floorplan and we were able to carve out a new primary suite that included a bedroom, laundry room, and closet. Now the dormered space is a cottage-inspired retreat!

Today’s blog post had me looking at the archives Today’s blog post had me looking at the archives at some shots of our previous house. I haven’t quite found that same “magic” here yet in our new home with decorating and styling, and that’s okay. Creating a home takes time, and I was much further into that process by the time I took these photos!

As we approach two years in our new house, we’re turning our attention to the outdoors for the summer! ☀️ If you’ve been around for a little while, you may remember that we began our patio project in the last house and then unexpectedly moved before it was complete. This time we’re sticking around to enjoy it! I’ll make sure to share the process in stories. The skid steer and excavator were dropped off yesterday and I can’t wait for them to begin!

Also, for a trip down memory lane with the summer decorating ideas from this post, visit the blog through stories or the link in my profile! 💙

Looking for a quick decorating win? Create a vigne Looking for a quick decorating win? Create a vignette! ⏱️✨

Vignettes are little decorating scenes on a tabletop or other surface that help you tell a story of some kind. They’re easy, quick, and don’t require an investment (unless you want to do a little shopping 😉).

Here are a couple of quick vignette tips:
👉🏻 Stagger the height of your items using books or risers of some kind.
👉🏻 Create dimension by putting your items at different depths rather than in a single layer.
👉🏻 Add interest with a natural element like florals or branches.

Do you have any tips to add? Which of these vignettes is your favorite? Let me know in the comments below!

I designed our bathroom just as much for night as I designed our bathroom just as much for night as for day with the soft, dimmable lights. I knew I’d want it to be as beautiful as possible for my relaxation time after my kids go to bed. 🧖‍♀️ Do you have an evening ritual? Taking a long soak in the tub is my favorite way to relax!🛁 But you won’t hear any tips about cold plunges from me, I like my bath WARM.🔥😂 (I know it’s good for you, I just can’t 🥶) Have you hopped on the cold plunge bandwagon or are you a warm shower/bath person?

When it came time to choose finishes in the kitche When it came time to choose finishes in the kitchen, I knew that I wanted to use unlacquered brass to warm up the cool-toned gray/white cabinets! I grew up with an antique unlacquered brass bed and I always loved the patina that came with age.

Some people prefer to keep their brass clean and shiny, but I welcome the character that will come as time passes! It will give the kitchen the lived-in look I crave. ✨

Scenes from around the new kitchen ✨ I’ve been Scenes from around the new kitchen ✨ I’ve been working on the blog post with all of the details for weeks, but it’s been a bit of a topsy-turvy time.

My daughter had a stomach bug, followed by a cold, followed by a scary and weird post-viral symptom of her legs painfully seizing up and not working properly (anyone else ever had a child who had this?). Luckily, she seems to be on the mend now! In the midst of it all, we had our pup Gracie spayed, which luckily went smoothly and was a quick recovery. But this mama is still feeling tired. 🙃😴

I guess that’s what homes are here for, giving us a safe harbor when life is stormy.
