I couldn’t for the life of me remember this piece, but later on in the weekend he brought me into his garage and showed me what he was talking about. I’m pretty sure my voice got very high pitched and there may have been some jumping for joy involved.
This cubby actually still has writing on it from the general store or post office that it came from. My Dad’s grandfather owned a salvage business in Cambridge, Massachusetts in the 1940s through 60s and saved all kinds of “treasures” that have been passed down. I was very happy to have something with history in my space, and it’s fun to imagine how it was used. The back had some water damage from long ago, so I did replace that with a piece of plywood stained to match. I haven’t put all of the supplies in it that I’m eventually planning to, but we’re off to a good start!
That same day I also brought home an old Tabletop pie display that I’m going to use to store construction paper and supplies at the kid’s craft table. I’m thinking about cleaning it up with some hemp oil but I don’t want to impact the logo on the side.
I love old things! Now if only a vintage hardware cabinet or card catalog with a reasonable price tag would become available… New England folks, keep an eye out for one for me! Will travel for a good deal. ;)
